Throughout January to March, the time of the year of cherry blossom in Taiwan is when cherry blossoms are all in bloom. Setting off from the north to the south of Taiwan, MyProGuide is taking you on a romantic stroll for cherry blossoms.
First thing first: the time to watch cherry blossoms in Taiwan
Cherry blossoms, with its lovely pink petals, are also known as Sakura. In Taiwan, the Sakura season starts roughly from late January to the middle of April. The full bloom is usually during March. Exact dates shift from year to year with the weather, so check local bloom reports before you go.
1. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei City (中正紀念堂)
Starting off from the capital city of Taiwan, Taipei, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is located at the heart of Taipei City with a remarkable connection to anywhere in the city. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, also called National Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall, was built to commemorate the former Taiwan President Chiang Kai-Shek. It has become one of the most historical landmarks since it carries significant meaning for most of the Taiwanese. During the cherry blossom season, visitors, locals alike will appear in the garden of the memorial hall to have a snap of the beautiful scenery. With pink and white petals covering like a blanket at CKS, don’t miss out appreciating the beauty of nature in the city.

2. Tian-yuan Temple, New Taipei (淡水無極天元宮)

Visit Tian-yuan temple, located in Tamsui, one of the most historic districts, where is surrounded by cherry blossoms when Spring arrives. This district is famous for a special type of cherry blossom: a unique mix breed between Taiwan and Japan species.

3. Yangmingshan National Park, Taipei City (陽明山國家公園)

If you are into taking photos, you can’t miss the most photogenic spots: Dongfang Temple and Lane 42 Pingjing Street.

4. Wulai Waterfall, New Taipei 烏來

You might have already heard about the hot Spring, yet you might not know about its cherry blossom season. During February and March, the road and paths from Wulai Old Street up to the waterfall are surrounded by a cloud of cherry blossoms. (The historic Wulai Scenic Trolley along this route has been out of service for long periods for repairs, so check whether it is running when you visit.) Famous for its aboriginal culture, don’t forget to have a snap of the dazzling waterfalls, made even more magical with the cherry blossoms.

5. Wuling Farm, Taichung city (武陵農場)

Heading to the middle of Taiwan, we arrive in the mountains of Taichung. Wuling Farm is for those who are interested in high mountain farm life, welcoming visitors, and offer an insight into local rural life. It is also famous for its cherry blossom season, when the roads and trails of the farm are lined with thousands of cherry trees in bloom. Have your camera and smartphone ready with you, let’s take some pretty pictures with these pink blossoms. During the cherry blossom festival, vehicle access and accommodation are tightly controlled, so book well in advance.

6. Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, Chiayi (阿里山國家森林遊樂區)

Located in the mountains of southern Taiwan, the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is one of the most iconic spots in Taiwan. From March to April is the most popular season at Alishan mountain due to the Cherry blossom season. Different varieties of cherry blossoms will bloom, including Kuril cherry, Taiwan cherry, Yaezakura, and Yoshino cherry. Apart from the breath-taking hiking trails for cherry blossoms, stay one more night at Alishan for its awe-inspiring sunrise. With thousands of blooming trees of many varieties, it is a must-see for your stay in Taiwan during spring. Since 2024 the Alishan Forest Railway once again runs all the way up from Chiayi, which makes the trip itself part of the fun.
